York Wedding Photography

Good documentary photography captures the moment and turns it into a photograph that stands alone as a document of a particular time and place. Excellent documentary photography elevates the moment, producing a photograph that tells a story and acts as a visual reminder of your happy day that can be framed and cherished for years to come.

A good photographer allows the subjects in their photographs to be at ease. For this to happen, the photographer must be discrete so as not to influence events as they unfold. Ultimately, it’s about being accepted by a group of strangers in order to capture a set of images that not only appear to be natural, but also are natural. These are the type of photographs that I am passionate about producing for my clients on their wedding day.

However, I am also sensitive to the needs of my clients. While I do like to work independently and with discretion, I am often asked to take a few group shots and a couple of portraits of the newlyweds. I am, of course, happy to oblige – it’s always possible to find ten minutes in the day to create these – but I find it best to plan these sorts of photographs in advance so as not to take too much time away from the reception. I will always make sure to take couples away for some shots of them together during quieter periods, and have these completed quickly and with good humour so that they can get back to enjoying their celebration.
