Yorkshire Church Wedding Photographer
Yin Yee + Matt got married in early spring. After a long winter, the first colour’s of the year ahead are always a pleasure to witness. The sun’s position shifts from its low winter perspective and this helps to create a warm ambience within the photos.
The couple got married in a local church and then held their reception in a marquee in Matt’s family’s garden, surrounded by fields. The setting complimented the relaxed pace to the day which was filled with fun and emotion which are all the best ingredients for taking wedding photographs.
The couple both got ready with their bridal party at Matt’s family’s house and started the day with some ‘Fetch the Bride’ games that are a set of challenges set by the bridesmaids for the groom to demonstrate his commitment to the bride and are customary in Chinese culture.
After completing all of the games, Matt serenaded Yin Yee through a closed door with a Chinese love song. I think the photo I took of this moment sums up the entire process and is my favourite of the series that I took of this part of the day.

After the preparations in the morning, I met up with Yin Yee as she arrived with her dad for the ceremony. The church offered beautiful pockets of the spring sunshine to work with and created beautiful photographs when the couple stood in them.
The reception was held in the marquee and as the day rolled on, the guests and all of their kids spilled out into the gardens and fields and I was able to blend in and capture all of the memories as they were created.
Laced throughout the day was a subtle humour and gentle sensitivity, and this is evident throughout the photographs. This is the privilege of being a wedding photographer, as when the couple trust me to bear witness to the inner workings of their lives, I’m given some amazing photo opportunities.
